Hello!

Good job to everyone who went to the Inter-Kyrie tournament this past weekend and represented SD Kyrie. Even though we didn't get the trophy, it's okay because... there was no trophy. ha ha. jk everyone did really well and thanks for all the effort! Regardless, it was such a beautiful day and it was even better spending it with each other, outdoors, out of Geisel/CSE, and getting a little tan. Hope everyone had fun!

SIXTH GBM - Thursday / Peterson Hall 103 / 7:30 PM

We are back to meeting at 7:30 pm this week y'all so don't be late! We will be talking about the importance of prayer to our spirituality, and our relationship with God and others.

FIFTH GBM - Thursday / Solis 111 / 8:00 PM

NOTICE THE TIME CHANGE. This week, please be at Solis Room 111 at 8 pm. We will meet to talk about Adoration for a little while. Then we will actually go to Adoration together! Adoration is hosted at USD. It will be a pretty late night and we will be back after 11 pm.

INTER-KYRIE SPORTS TOURNAMENT - Saturday, May 1st / Bonita Creek Field, 3010 La Vida, Newport Beach

This Saturday is our last Inter-Kyrie Tournament of the year! We need to be there by 10 AM so we will meet at Peterson Loop at 8:30 AM and leave by 9. Please bring $5!!!!! The tournament is supposed to go until 3oclock. Please find the Facebook event for rules.

We will have TWO MORE PRACTICES. THURSDAY (today) at 2:30 PM and FRIDAY at 3 PM at Muir Field. Remember to bring your "flag"!

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM WHO'S HUNNNNNGGGRYYYY!?!? For those who were sad that last week was our final GBM of this quarter, fear not! In actuality, last week was the last real GBM but it is tradition to end Winter Quarter with a good dinner! We will be going to Pat & Oscar's in Mira Mesa. Meet us at Peterson Loop at 7pm! St. Columba, SD's Korean Parish, has invited us to their church Saturday evening to enjoy a dinner, talk, and mass with Father Eugene. For those who missed the GBM with him a couple weeks back, you might've heard how amazing he is. This is your chance to experience his faith and energy [again]! It's time for our quarterly All-Catholic Mixer! Come celebrate the season of Lent with your Catholic brothers and sisters from Kyrie, Newman Center, and YFC!

INTER-KYRIE SPORTS TOURNAMENT - Saturday, Feb. 20 / Stoner Park LA / 9:30 am

Finally, we will be able to "kick some ball" this weekend! If you are planning to attend the tournament, Coach Han says you MUST come to practice on Friday at 4 pm because we will be making the teams then! On the day of the tournament, we will be giving rides from Peterson Hall Loop at 7:30 am. Please be on time!

Thank you to all those who came to our BBQ Fundraiser today! It was a wonderful sight to see so many members together on a day other than Thursday or Sunday, and we couldn't have done it without you. It was a great success and we thank God for the beautiful weather!

SIXTH GBM - Thursday / Warren Lecture Hall 2111 / 8 pm SHARP SHARP SHARP

It is important that you try not to be late this week because we are welcoming a guest speaker! Father Eugene from St. Thomas will be joining us for Kyrie tomorrow night! He will hold Mass and talk to us about Lent and whatever else you may want to know. We are blessed and thankful that he can come and celebrate a special and intimate Mass just for our Kyrie group so you will not want to miss out. Please be there as soon as you can.

INTER-KYRIE SPORTS TOURNAMENT - Saturday, Feb. 20th / Los Angeles / 9:30 am

Due to the rain, the tournament has been postponed to Feb. 20th. We will continue to have practices so listen up for them and come out!

FIFTH GBM - Thursday / International Center / 6 pm

That's right everyone-- we are halfway through the quarter! We miss you since our last week's meeting, soooo meet us at the International Center this week for a movie night! We'll be joining Newman Center for TND (Thursday Night Dinner) which starts at 6pm. Dinner will be $3 but worth every buck! Then we will watch "Bella" together, starting at 6:30!

INTER-KYRIE SPORTS TOURNAMENT - Saturday, Feb. 6 / Stoner Park Los Angeles / 9:30 am

Thanks to everyone who came out to practice on Monday! Looks like this Saturday is going to be successful =) Since the tournament begins at 9:30, we will meet at Peterson Hall Loop at 7 AM. Please be respectful of others who are there on time and don't be late! And we will have another practice Friday so you will hear from your parents with the time!

VALENTINE DINNER - Sunday, Feb. 7 / Villas of Renaissance Clubhouse / 5:30 pm

The girls have been planning a lot to make this dinner really great so guys please be sure you don't miss it! It's starting a little earlier than usual but that is due to a time constraint with the the venue. Guy staff members will arrange rides to get to the dinner by 5:30 pm sharp!!!

Sooooo, how do these two worlds intertwine in our lives without being contradictory? Come to Warren Lecture Hall 2111 at 7:30 this Thursday for a very interesting and enlightening meeting :)

It's time for us to bring home another trophy! UCLA will be hosting this quarter's sports tournament. They have not yet announced the sport but mark your calendars for February 6th because we will be heading up to LA that day for another victory! Watch out for practice times too as soon as we find out what sport it is!

Chew On This

Greetings friends~

Remember the challenge we posed to you at last week's GBM? Even if you do, here's a reminder anyway!

Last week we assessed the importance of food to both our spiritual and physical well-being. We also discussed in what way the Bible mentions food consumption. We concluded that everything we discussed came together to meet at one moment, the Last Supper, the moment when our Lord gave himself up as the ultimate source of bodily and spiritual sustenance, redemption, forgiveness, and love.

Thereafter we challenged you within the following week to think about your daily food consumption: to really think about where your food comes from, how and when you consume it, etc. By eating moderately, you are treating your body with respect; and by consciously giving thanks for what you eat, you are able to illuminate and give glory to the fullness of the Holy Spirit who infinitely and unwaveringly provides for us.

As you go about your ways the rest of this week, meditate on these words before you pick up that fork:

And do not get drunk on wine, in which lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
Ephesians 5:18

(What are the activities you engage in on a daily basis that you think keep you full and satisfied, but in actuality, inhibit your ability to participate in other fulfilling actions and ultimately hurt your body?)

I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, your spiritual worship. Do not conform yourself to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and pleasing and perfect.
Romans 12:1,2

(What better way to give thanks to God than by simply taking care of the body he blessed you with, right?)

What then can we do practically to "offer our bodies as a living sacrifice"? Here are some friendly, pretty evident, but wholly significant tips:
1) Exercise.Take a brisk walk around your block, go to the gym, play basketball, whatever. You gain buns of steel, a clear head, and a healthy, pumping heart to boot! (Do avoid running outside this week though it's raining!)

2) Give thanks before eating, instead of your usual "Lord, please bless this food and the hands that made it, etc". With each meal and each prayer, give thanks for something different, whether it be giving thanks for wonderful weather, getting to class early, meeting with friends, etc.

3) Come out to pray the rosary! We meet daily in front of the Dr. Seuss statue near Geisel to pray and meditate upon the rosary. What a great way to give thanks with fellow Kyrie members and maybe after share a meal together .
Rosary times are conveniently around lunchtime so you're full, both spiritually and physically!

HELLO HELLO HELLO!!
We hope your second week of school is going great! Surely none of you are burnt out already, right? But if you are, we have a THREE-DAY WEEKEND coming up! If you're going to go home, have a safe trip to and from. If you're staying in San Diego , you should meet up with your cool Kyrie friends and go to the beach or SeaWorld or something. Just because it's January and raining doesn't mean that you can't have some fun outside, right? Speaking of which, Thursday's weather is predicted to be absolutely beautiful ! So you really have no excuse to miss our FIRST OFFICIAL GBM of 2010. We have so many important announcements and fun things planned out for you, so please come.

You may think all the fun stuff (Broomball, Thanksgiving , Volleyball tournament , Ski Trip ) is over... but FEAR NOT! We have even better things planned out for Kyrie this quarter! "Like what?" Happy almost Thanksgiving! Hope everyone is having a great week, but if not it's ok, tomorrow's Mixer and this weekend will make up for it! This is a packed weekend for Kyrie but come out to our events that staff is working hard to prepare for you and you are guaranteed a wonderful time =)

EIGHTH WEEK - All Catholic Mixer / Thursday / International Center / 7 pm

I know we said our last General Body Meeting was last week, but that's because this week's meeting is different! We are meeting with different Catholic fellowships at International Center (across from Center Hall at the end of Library Walk). Newman Center has a great meeting planned out for everyone so come out! It will start with Thursday Night Dinner for $3 at 6 pm. Tired of dorm food or running out of mealpoints already? Come eat dinner with the people you love :) Then, there will be an "Amazing Race" Catholic style. It will be really fun so make sure to be there. Also, please bring your shirt/jacket money because we want to give them to you guys by the volleyball tournament!

INTER-KYRIE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT - Saturday, Nov. 21 / Moonlight State Beach / 10 am

IT'S ONLY 3 DAYS AWAY! Come out to our LAST PRACTICE this Friday, as always, at 3 pm at the Muir courts! We can't let any other school take that trophy from us this year! On Saturday, we will be giving rides from Peterson Hall Loop. Be there by 8:50 AM because we are leaving promptly at 9 AM. We need to be at the site before other schools get there so we can greet them =)

Also, it looks like we're going to have our new Kyrie shirts in by that day. So PLEASE, we beg you, PLEASE bring $5 for shirts or $20 for jackets, or $25 for both, tomorrow night to International Center!

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER - Sunday, Nov. 22/ Surprise Location / 7:30 pm

Girls, this is your night! Come to Peterson Hall Loop by 7 pm (even if you live off campus) and the guys will escort us to the dinner. You won't want to miss the great food and night prepared by the Kyrie gentlemen. Dress is semi-formal attire for everyone.

Remember, for those of you who still have not paid for Ski Trip, Sunday, Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving Dinner) is the last day to pay $90. Then it goes up to $100. Also, remember to bring your shirt and jacket money tomorrow! This is the most financially demanding quarter and so we apologize =( but it will get better after this quarter! Happy Veteran's Day everyone! Hope you are all enjoying a day free from classes and work, hopefully? Let's take a moment to remember the veterans who are the reason for this holiday. We hope everyone had a nice transition from daylight savings! Wasn't that extra hour of sleep truly wonderful? And can you believe it's already November?! Before we know it, Thanksgiving will come around... and then CHRISTMAS!! We have so many fun events planned out for the rest of the year and you sure don't want to miss out on any of them.

SIXTH GBM- Thursday / 7:30 pm / Center Hall 222

We only have two General Body Meetings left for this quarter! Therefore, you should make it top priority to make it out this week! You might be wondering why we meet every day of the week to pray the Rosary? Well, come find out this Thursday! We will have a fun meeting to talk about the Rosary and it's importance to our faith.

FALL SPORTS TOURNAMENT - Saturday / Nov. 21 / 10 am / Location TBA

Just because we have broomball this Friday, does not mean we are forgetting about volleyball practice! UCI is already practicing too so make sure you come out to the Muir volleyball courts on Friday from 3-5 pm because we want to win that trophy!!!! The actual tournament will be Saturday, Nov. 21, so we need to train quickly! UCR, UCLA, and UCI Kyrie will come down to join us in San Diego that day so we have to be good hosts and GREAT TEAM PLAYERS! This is one weekend you will NOT want to miss. So make sure you don't go home this weekend, or make any other plans, and be sure to do all your studying ahead of time! The day right after the Sports Tournament is our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner where the guys will cook a delicious meal for the girls! Girls, this event is always memorable because everyone dresses up and it is the one night of the year where our Kyrie guys miraculously become gentlemen and do all the work and cater to the women! Hello and a happy Halloween to all of our wonderful Kyrie family. We hope you all had a great week. Many of you are probably stressed, sick, or just suffering from some serious Kyrie-withdrawal. But thankfully (as always), there is a great way to get away from everything for a night: Kyrie! Following last week's wonderful meeting, we will be having another exciting (or should we say thrilling) meeting! As an added bonus, we'll be taking a field trip too (Warning: prepare to get spooked)! You definitely don't wanna miss out on this last meeting of October. If you miss out, it may just haunt you forever!

FIFTH GBM - Thursday / Center Hall Rm 222 / 7:30 pm

In the spirit of Halloween, this week's meeting will be a presentation on Demonology! Curious about angels, demons, and ghosts? Then be sure to be there. We will be starting at 7:30 pm SHARP! So please be there on time (if not earlier).

After the meeting, we will head out to the Del Mar Scream Zone at 8:15 pm. It's $15 to go into the House of Horror and $18 for both the House of Horror and the Haunted Chamber. You can try one of them, both of them, or none of them! Everyone can get into the fair for free (it will only cost money to go into the haunted mazes). So Even if you're scared (as some of us are), come with us to hang out, eat, and have fun!

Important Reminder: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring your ski lift money! This meeting is your last chance to buy lift tickets! It is $20 for one ticket, and $40 for two tickets.

SKI TRIP - Dec. 13- 16 / Big Bear

It's already Week 5?! It'll be winter break before you know it! And what's a better way to start off your break than to go on the Annual Kyrie Ski Trip! It is $90 until Nov. 22, and the price will rise to $100 after that, so hurry and sign up at the GBMs!! The $90 includes transportation to/from Big Bear Mountain, delicious meals, and 3 nights' stay at an amazing cabin.

Unfortunately, the ski/snowboarding lift tickets are not included in the $90. But lucky for us, we still get them at a good price! AND THIS GBM IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO PAY FOR LIFT TICKETS. It is $20 per ticket and you may purchase up to 2 ($40) or none at all. Once again, this Thursday, Oct. 29, is the deadline to pay for lift tickets! If you have any trouble with this, please let your Kyrie family parents know or Facebook us, before Friday!

It's only 10 days away! Next Friday, we will meet at Peterson Hall Loop at 6 o' clock pm to leave for Anaheim altogether. This is our first Inter-Kyrie event of the year, where you will be able to meet fellow Kyrie brothers and sisters from UCLA, UCI, and UCR. It is $15, which includes snacks, drinks, and the broomball fee. UCI Kyrie Eleison, the host of this event, has made the theme for this event 'Sports'! We are all encouraged to dress according to the 'Sports' theme so don't be the only odd-ball out!

Fall Sports Tournament - Saturday, Nov. 21 / UCSD

Our second Inter-Kyrie event will be hosted by us! Every quarter, we have a sports tournament with UCI, UCLA, and UCR Kyries. Fall quarter's sport will be Volleyball at UCSD. Thus, we need to start practicing so we can win that trophy! Practice will start this Friday, Oct. 30, at 3 o' clock pm at the Muir volleyball courts. You don't need any experience! Just come join us for another fellowship and physical activity-- good for the body and soul. :) Please come play or support!

Hello beloved Kyrie members~

Here are some important facts for our upcoming ski trip!
(which will take place Sunday, Dec. 13- Wednesday, Dec. 16)

The deadline to pay for a ski/snowboard lift ticket is at this week's GBM-- Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009!!!!
WHAT?! YES, THIS WEEK'S GBM is your LAST CHANCE to buy LIFT TICKETS. Sorry, but it's because the convention that we get our tickets at is early this year.
It is $20 per ticket and you can buy up to two tickets.

Or, you don't have to ski/snowboard, but OF COURSE you want to still come on this trip.

Our cabin this year is B-E-A-UUUUUTIFUL and BALLIN!!

Aside from lift tickets, the trip will cost $90. This includes transportation, food, and 3 nights stay in a lovely place with your lovely Kyrie family. I say that's a pretty darn good deal.

The deadline to pay the $90 is Sunday, Nov. 22. After that, there will be a late fee of $10, making it $100. This $100 will be accepted until Thursday, Dec. 3, our last GBM for this quarter.

We will take cash or checks. (we will tell you who to make checks out to at gbm)

WAKE UP AND CHANGE!!!!!!!

Sorry if this is long-- I didn't really have much time to polish it but I hope that doesn't take away from the message.

Something that’s been on my mind a lot lately and has been frustrating me from time to time is complacency. How many of the people around me are so content with never moving forward amazes me.

And I think talking to a lot of people and also just listening to people’s ways of viewing their faith/lives for a while has inspired me to make this post. Because I think ultimately, Fr. Joseph’s homily today got to the heart of it.

Are we really calling out?

As Catholics are we really calling out? As Christians are we really calling out?

Or are we the people that rebuked the blind man and said “Dude what the heck are you doing? Shut up. Who calls out like that?!? SHHHH. STIFLE IT!” Are we the ones that are scared when we see someone that is ACTUALLY searching for something more, and as a result , we can rationalize our OWN complacency by saying “Oh well, that’s them not me. They’re crazy anyway.”

Because, like Fr. Joseph said, that blind man may have been lacking in sight, but he was not lacking in faith. And it is the very fact that he had faith that he had the courage to cry out to Jesus and be healed. But then.. what were all those OTHER people doing? What were all these other people claiming to believe but didn’t actually believe?

I think that’s the core of it. When you have faith, real faith, then how can you not be moved? How can you keep your mouth shut from proclaiming the Good News without sewing your lips together? How can you contain the love that you have inside your heart and keep it from bursting?!

Maybe I can try to make this more relatable because this can apply to so many other aspects of our lives.

It’s easy to SAY that you love someone. It’s easy to SAY that you will love them for all because they are the best thing that has ever happened to you with just words, but it’s ANOTHER thing to be able to actually FEEL that with every fiber of your being and DO something about it. It’s like courting. You don’t just say you love someone and then show up to a “weekly date” 10 minutes late, never actually pay attention to what the other person is saying throughout the whole thing, and at the end of the date say, “Hey. At least I showed up, ok?!” Because honestly, if that’s how you approach dating, I feel like you will be alone for a long time.

When you do that, though, you’re basically saying that person is not worth that time, not worth the effort of showing up and actually being there—physically, mentally or spiritually. How do either of the people in the relationship learn more about each other when “At least I’m here” is the main mentality? How often do we show up to Mass, don’t put anything into it, and use that line? Is that excuse ACTUALLY acceptable in any other circumstance besides Church for us? WHY DO WE SETTLE FOR THAT?!

Or maybe it’s not that. Maybe you show up, but you feel like you can’t say anything during the “date” because you are too shy or you don’t have the confidence to show your love to someone like that.. or you just don’t have that “pizzazz.” Maybe you don’t have that self-confidence to show the person that you love them. Or maybe you’re just at a “different level.” But honestly, that is what is so great about God. That is what is so great about the love that we get from Him and the strength we receive from praying. We get an amazing ability to draw our strength from somewhere else, the ability that strength in HIM and be able to do things whole-heartedly. The only thing is, we have to be able to ask. We have to WORK at it. It’s stupid to stick with those excuses as if you can never change and eventually learn how to overcome them.

The way I see it is this—we are ALL called to be missionaries. EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US. And although everyone has their different backgrounds, different levels of faith, we are still all trying to reach the same thing. And the very fact that that THING is GOD just proves that there are NO boundaries, NO excuses for NOT proclaiming his goodness. Because if you think about all of the different backgrounds of all the saints, I think it’s pretty obvious that in the end, regardless of how poor you were or whether or not your family was Catholic or not/supportive or not, EVERYONE can be inspired by God. Everyone can be touched by His love. It all depends on how much they search, how much they want it. It’s a call to come out of your comfort zone to experience what true love really is.

So I think the question is, are we actually searching for it? Are we actually striving towards it? Are we actually moving forward?

You can be in the same place for a long time for one of two reasons. Either you are struggling where you are at because you are not being fed properly and cannot go forward, & do not have much to go off of anymore, but you are still struggling with that fact, still hoping to move. Or… you are stagnant. Because you’re not doing anything about it. You settle in complacency and you just sit there saying “Hey, at least I got this far. So what’s the point in going any farther? I like where I’m at.” The difference between these two is not that one is happy where he is and one is not. Because you should always be HAPPY no matter where you are on your journey towards Christ, but you should never SETTLE on the way. One who struggles finds joy in where he is, but also realizes that there is more joy to come. One who is stagnant simply thinks this is all the happiness that he can get and settles for it.

The reason I am so sad is BECAUSE people bother making excuses. Because people feel like they need to make excuses for why they don’t say prayers in Mass, why they can’t take out a songbook and follow along, even if they "can’t sing" (IF YOU CANT SING, then just read the words out loud! Or is reading the hard part? If that’s the case, come talk to me and I’ll help you out, but I'd like to hope that UCSD students can read.); they make excuses for why they can’t repeat what the lector just said in the responsorial psalm, and they make excuses for why they can’t do this or can’t do that. The very fact that even those SIMPLE things cannot be done, speaks MOUNDS about people’s mindsets. About how closed off to the fact that they need to grow, even after being spoken to about the ways in which they CAN learn and grow.

The thing is, people are scared of being changed for the better. They’re scared to call out.

What a pity, when we as Catholics are given so many opportunities to do more. To learn more!!

...But I mean… we’d RATHER just stay where we’re at. Cause I mean..

“At least we’re here, right?”

..Sigh. Wake up & smell the roses!

This is not a hopeless post for those of you that are mistaken, but rather a frustrated response at people who content with just the way they are. It is a challenge to always struggle for something better! Frustration is not a bad thing when talking about being frustrated with the way that people are not following Christ in ways that they can. I am overall hopeful-- because I hope it inspires you to actually evaluate if you are truly willing to take up the challenge or not.

UC Irvine's Kyrie Eleison is hosting our first Inter-Kyrie event of the year! We will be meeting up with Kyries from UCLA and UCR as well. UCI Kyrie has asked of us to be in Anaheim by 8 pm. Thus, we will meet at Peterson Hall Loop at 6 pm and take off together. It is also $15, which includes the snacks, drinks, and the broomball fee. JUST KIDDING! For those of you who have not yet met the infamous Mr. Yang, this is your chance. Join us this week to hear a talk from an entertaining and knowledgeable friend of ours.

Also, we know the room last week was a little snug but hopefully this week's room will be.. more roomy.. hehe.

SKI DAZZLE- Saturday Oct. 31 / LA Convention Center / Time TBD

It's only October but our Greatly-Anticipated-Super-Fun-whereyougettoknoweveryone-Annual Ski Trip will be here before you know it! But first things first, if you are joining us for this trip and are planning on skiing/snowboarding, we are accepting your lift ticket money NOW! We get our lift tickets for a very good price from the Ski Dazzle Convention. It is $20 per lift ticket and you have the option of skiing/snowboarding for two days (if so you'll need to purchase 2 tickets- $40). You have about 3 weeks to get your money to us! Come out to our GBM to sign up for the ski trip itself and for the lift tickets!!!!!

BROOMBALL- Friday Nov. 6 / Anaheim / 8 pm

Yay! It's time for our first Inter-Kyrie Event! UC Irvine Kyrie Eleison is hosting a Broomball session on Friday, Nov. 6, so that we can all meet up with fellow Kyrie brothers and sisters from UCI, UCLA, and UCR. As always, rides will be provided and more information will be announced at meetings. We'll need a head count so come out to the GBM and sign up!

Hello to all our wonderful Kyrie brothers and sisters!
We hope you are having a wonderful 2nd week. We're sure many of you are already stressing out about midterms and... everything else college students worry about. So why not take some time off and come to Kyrie to meet friends, have fun, and learn more about our Catholic faith? And if you're sick of dining halls, you can come eat with us after the meeting! Could we possibly make it any more appealing?! ha..ha..

SECOND GBM- Thursday / Warren Lecture Hall 2208 / 7:30 pm
It's finally here! Time for our first regular General Body Meeting. We will meet at Warren Lecture Hall, Room #2208 at 7:30 pm SHARP! We'll have some important things to tell you and fun activities at the beginning of the meeting so don't be late! Actually, how miraculous would it be if you were all early? Speaking of which, our meeting will be filled with "miracles". You won't want to miss this meeting we have planned for you.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION- SATURDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP/ 3:30 pm
Our Mother of Confidence Church offers Confession from 4-5pm every week. This Saturday, Kyrie will be providing rides. If you would like to go with us, please reply to this e-mail so we know how many people will need rides and meet us at Peterson Hall Loop at 3:30 pm!

MASS- SUNDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP & WARREN SHUTTLE STOP / 12 NOON
Mass is at Good Samaritan Church at 12:30 pm, located on the corner of Genessee and Eastgate Mall. C'mon, it's in the afternoon so everyone should be able to wake up for it! Even if it wasn't in the afternoon, everyone could wake up to devote some of their time to God and their Kyrie family, right?!?! We will be giving mass rides from campus at 12 NOON at our two pick-up locations-- Peterson Hall Loop and Warren Shuttle Stop. Please be on time and don't get left behind!

DAILY ROSARY - DR. SEUSS STATUE AT GEISEL LIBRARY
This week has been a successful start to our Rosary praying this quarter. We meet everyday at the Dr. Seuss Statue at Geisel Library to pray Rosary together. Come spend time with Mother Mary and your lovely Kyrie members. Here is the schedule for this Fall Quarter.

Hello everyone!
We hope your first full week of school is going well. We are looking forward to seeing you all~ here are some announcements!

FIRST GBM- THURSDAY 6:30 pm
This week's meeting will be a Praise Night with Newman Center. There will also be a free TND (Thursday Night Dinner) provided by Newman, starting at 6pm. However, if you cannot make it to dinner, please meet us at Peterson Hall Loop (where we met for bonfire rides) at 6:30 pm. From there, we will walk over to International Center together for Praise Night at 7pm. After Praise Night, join us to go eat at Denny's! Rides will be provided.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION- SATURDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP/ 3:30 pm
This Saturday, Kyrie will be providing rides to Confession at Our Mother of Confidence Church. If you would like to go with us, please reply to this e-mail so we know how many people will need rides!

KYRIE RETREAT ITINERARY

Hello Retreatants,

Peace be with you!

This email is in regards to our upcoming Kyrie Retreat on May 22nd - 24th. If you have not already signed up for the retreat, please contact Alice Kim immediately, as we need to know how many people are attending. We have limited space left.

Here is the list of things you need to bring for the retreat:
-Sleeping Bag
-Sleeping Pad (optional)
-Pillow
-Change of clothes (weather is expected to be mild -reach a high of 75 degrees, with a low of 45 at night)
-Sunblock
-Comfortable shoes
-Towel
-Flashlight
-Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, razor, etc)
-Bible (optional)
-Rosary (optional)
-Refillable bottle for water
-An open heart and mind
-Smiles (we are not kidding about the last two)

Included in your $30 payment will be food, beverage, tents, and transportation. You will not need to bring anything else that is not included on the list. Please refrain from bringing electronic equipment, textbooks, or gaming consoles. This is a weekend for you to retreat from the world to listen to God's word.

We will be leaving Friday at all different times of the day, and the cars will be grouped according to your schedule. We would like to leave Friday afternoon as early as possible, so that we can arrive at the campsite while there is still daylight. Ideally, the last car to leave UCSD will be at Peterson Hall at 6 PM. If you have a different need, please contact Alice. This weekend is Memorial Day weekend, so we have no classes Monday. We will leave the campsite on Sunday morning, and arrive in La Jolla on Sunday afternoon in time for the 5:30 Mass.

Important: If you do not have a sleeping bag, please try to borrow one from a friend. Otherwise, there are two options. UCSD Outback Adventures (located on campus at Sixth College) rents out sleeping bags for $17 for the weekend. If you would like, you are also welcome to bring a set of blankets to sleep on if you do not want to rent the sleeping bag.

This retreat is largely going to take place in silence, as God comes to us fully in the silence. All of nature grows in the silence, we grow in the womb in silence, and God's voice is most clearly heard in the silence. This may be a difficult task for many of us, but do not be afraid! God is love, and He is with us always. If you are not accustomed to silence, try to take just 15 minutes of your day and spend it in silence before the retreat. This works best while reading scripture, but any prayer is good prayer.

We pray that this retreat will be a weekend filled with the Holy Spirit, that He touch our lives so that we may go out into the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. We pray that we realize that we are made in the image of Love Himself, the one and only true God.

Peace be with you! In case you haven't noticed, the UCSD calendar now says "Week 8 - Spring Quarter." There are really only two weeks left in the year! In our limited time left together, we have to live our lives to the fullest. Read the announcements below - it's a good place to start.

Jesus, I see You bowed to the earth, enduring the pains of extreme exhaustion. Grant that I may never yield to despair in time of hardship and spiritual distress. Let me come to You for help and comfort.

EIGHTH GBM - THURSDAY / INTERNATIONAL CENTER / 6:00 PM (7:30)
This week's GBM is actually our last All Catholic Mixer of the year! While the event itself will start at 7:30 PM, Thursday Night Dinner (always good food for $3) will start at 6 PM. This week's mixer will be a praise concert featuring Kyrie, Youth for Christ, IV Catholics, and the Newman Center Catholic Community. Come out to praise God with your Catholic brothers and sisters, and cheer on your Kyrie band members!

SUNDAY MASS - SUNDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 5:00 PM
We will not return from our weekend retreat until early afternoon, therefore we will be attending the 5:30 Mass at Good Samaritan as a group. There will be no 12:30 Mass rides provided; so if you are not attending the retreat, please come to Peterson Hall Loop at 5 PM for rides. Otherwise, you will need to find your own ride for the 12:30 or 7:30 PM Masses.

So don't spend all your money in the coming week because you're going to want to save it for this. Since its a Thursday, casual attire is OK.

KYRIE END OF YEAR BANQUET - SUNDAY MAY 31ST / PHIL'S BBQ EVENT CENTER / 7:00 PM
Looks like there's a growing trend of eating BBQ ribs in semi-formal clothing. Everyone is invited to the Kyrie End of Year Banquet, which will be held at Phil's BBQ Event Center in Point Loma. If you haven't received an invitation, the Junior Class will be more than happy to give you one. But even if you don't receive one, of course you're coming! Important: the Junior Class needs prompt payment of $35 to host this wonderful event for us. Please see Jenny Koo or any of the Kyrie Juniors for payment. PS. How are those presentations coming along?

KYRIE RETREAT - MAY 22ND - 24TH / CUYAMACA RANCHO STATE PARK
We've made a change in the location for the retreat. We will no longer be staying at the Anza-Borrego Desert due to the 100 degree weather during the day. The absolute last moment to sign up for the retreat is Thursday's Mixer. But if you plan to attend the retreat and you have NOT signed up yet, please contact Alice Kim IMMEDIATELY at 714-616-4998. If you plan on attending, all you need to do is text Alice (or reply to this email) that you'd like to go and give her $30 by Thursday night. KYRIE RETREAT - MAY 22 - 24 / ANZA-BORREGO DESERT
We will go into the desert to find life where there is little, to find fruit in the barrennesss, to find Jesus in the seemingly impossible. Come with us on our only retreat of the year on Memorial Day Weekend, as we prepare to spend the weekend in God's presence. The retreat will cost $30 for all expenses, and we will accept sign-ups at the Thursday GBM. We hope and pray that it will be an amazing retreat with the Holy Spirit for all of us.

Going deeper into a sacramental life this Thursday by exploring the sacrament of Confirmation. Come out *with your families to Peterson Hall 104 (again!) to learn how the Holy Spirit can move us in our lives today.

KYRIE ELEISON Week 3 Announcements

Brothers and sisters,

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of Truth which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you and will be in you." (JN 14:15-17)

Fun fact that you may not have known: the Easter Season actually doesn't end with Easter Sunday. It actually starts on Easter Sunday and ends with Pentacost, when we celebrate the Holy Spirit sent to the Apostles. So we now have 50 days of celebration ahead of us!

THIRD GBM - THURSDAY / PETERSON HALL 104 / 7:30 PM
We have a special guest coming for our 3rd GBM! Father Anthony Saroki, the San Diego Diocese Director of Vocations, will be visiting Kyrie to celebrate Mass for us! That's right - we will be celebrating Mass at Peterson Hall 104. If you didn't realize, this is history in the making. Please meet at Peterson Hall promptly at 7:30 PM so that we can welcome Father Anthony. If you do need to come late, please enter quietly so that you do not disturb the Mass. But we want everyone to celebrate with us, so please join us! Father Anthony will also be talking to us about Holy Orders (remember our theme Rite On), so if you had a question about vocations or any other general question about the Catholic Church, feel free to ask him!

So for the next two weeks, we will be practicing Ultimate Frisbee until we puke. Practices will be held on Friday at the Muir Fields at 4 PM. Don't know how Ultimate Frisbee is played? Imagine if you combined soccer and football together, then added a Frisbee to it. It's pretty fun - come find out for yourself!

KYRIE ELEISON Week 2 Announcements

Greetings friends,

"I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." (John 15: 11-17)

It's Week 2 for UCSD's academic schedule, but for us, it is more importantly Holy Week, the final week of Lent in which we make our final preparations for Jesus' death and resurrection. Don't worry if you have failed to keep all of your Lenten promises though. Our Father is not concerned always with how we start, but how we finish. We make our last push towards the Lenten finish line, because we know that Jesus helps us along the way.

HOLY THURSDAY MASS - THURSDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 7:30 PM
It's Holy Thursday! We'll all be going to Mass together to immerse ourselves in God as the Easter Weekend approaches. We will start our regular GBM schedule the following week. PS. We will also be given new families before the Mass!

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE - FRIDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 7:30 PM
Good Friday is the day that Jesus was crucified for us. We will wind down our day of prayer and fasting on Good Friday with a prayer service and Veneration of the Cross. Rides will be provided at Peterson Hall Loop at 7:30 PM.

EASTER SUNDAY MASS - SUNDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP & WARREN SHUTTLE STOP / 12:00 PM

On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But He not only resurrected Himself; He resurrected all of us with him! God is real; although it may not seem like it at times, He is always present in our lives. We come to Easter Sunday Mass with joyous hearts, bringing our needs to our God and thanking Him for all the grace He has given us. We will meet at our usual meeting spots at 12 noon (10 minutes earlier than usual) to get to Mass on time.

Brothers and sisters,

"Behold, I make all things new" (Revelation 21:5).

Admit it already. You missed us, didn't you? You found yourself pacing the hallway in your house, or staring off blankly into space while eating your kimchi and your mom asked you what was wrong. They're just normal Kyrie withdrawal symptoms. But we're back (and better than ever)! And surprise, surprise, its Spring Quarter 2009. Seniors, you are just one quarter away from that dreaded graduation. Freshman, you are just one quarter away from being promoted from loser freshmen. And it's officially spring. We are preparing ourselves for the coming of our Lord on Easter Sunday, the weather is perking up, and its a brand new quarter. What's not to love?

FIRST GBM - THURSDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 7:00 PM
We are going to kick off our brand-new quarter in typically awesome Lenten style. Please arrive promptly at 7:00 PM as we will be leaving to pray the Stations of the Cross. If its been a while since you've prayed the Stations of the Cross, or if you haven't had the chance to encounter it yet, here's a link that may help you prepare. --> Stations of the Cross. It seems like its been a while since we've all seen each other! Please come out and enjoy some quality time with God, and all of your Kyrie family.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION - SATURDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 3:30 PM
This Saturday, Kyrie will be providing rides to Reconciliation at Our Mother of Confidence Church. Because Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, this Saturday is typically the last Reconcilation service offered in most parishes. If you have sins in need of confessing, please come to Peterson Hall Loop at 3:30 PM and we will all go together! It will be a great way to begin your final week of Lent to receive our Lord on Easter Sunday.

SUNDAY MASS - SUNDAY / PETERSON HALL LOOP / 11:15 AM
No typo up there. We are meeting at Peterson Hall Loop at 11:15 AM this Palm Sunday. To walk with Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, we will be walking together to Mass! Hey, we could all use the exercise right? The fresh air and sunlight will do us all some good. Warning: we do need to leave promptly. We realize that it can be difficult to wake up on those Sunday mornings, but please be at Peterson Hall Loop by 11:15 - you do not want to miss out on Palm Sunday!

DAILY ROSARY - TO BE DETERMINED
The staff has not yet set a Rosary schedule for this quarter, but we will start Daily Rosary next week. For those of you who have faithfully prayed the Rosary this Lent, keep up the good work. Grace is with you, as it is with our Lady. Keep an eye out for new Rosary times - see you next week at Geisel!

KYRIE visits the SD Food Bank

Hello all,
Hope your Finals study is happening distraction-free, unlike mine. I'm gonna blog about our visit to the San Diego Food Bank. I mistakenly had publicized the event as the San Diego Soup Kitchen via email, which could not have been more incorrect.

At no time during our time at the Food Bank did we physically serve homeless or hungry people soup. Heck, there wasn't even a single homeless person there. Turns out the Food Bank is a distribution center where they receive food shipments from various sources - today's happened to be a Vons shipment. Our job was to sort out the edible food from the expired and damaged items, which varied from chocolate bars to lima beans to Gatorade.

I have to say, sorting out the old (often expired) cans of food might have been the nastiest thing I've done in a long time. Half of the items were damaged in some way - either the box was crushed, or coated with some sort of sticky liquid that I did not want to touch without gloves (which we did not have).

We worked in a warehouse full of smelly boxes. And the work could not have been more tedious and unglamorous. However, I'm glad I had the chance to attend and contribute. We take for granted so many of the things we have. It was a Lenten wake up call. It was eye-opening.

Thanks to Alice for coordinating the event and for everyone who came out: Alice, Jenn, Yongmi, Michelle, Juliet, Christina, and Jeff. Today, I'm happy to know that we served the body of Christ, even if it may not have seemed like it on the surface.

Are you excited yet? Our End of the Quarter Dinner will be at California Pizza Kitchen tonight at 7:00 pm. We will be meeting at Peterson Hall Loop at 7 PM sharp to head over to CPK together. We do have a small request: please bring some cash tonight so that our bill doesn't have to be split with credit cards at the end. See you tonight!
